 Stephanie “Stevie” Berryman

Artistic Director, Houston Chamber Ringers

Stevie Berryman is astonishingly good at the game Boggle. She can fold a fitted sheet so it looks like it came right out of the package. Likewise, her skills as music director and teacher have also been acquired through long hours of arduous and dedicated practice. For much of her career Stevie has directed seven or more ensembles each week, meaning she has 98 years of experience (in dog years). Her effusive energy and wild creativity found a perfect setting in 2013 when she became the Artistic Director of the Houston Chamber Ringers, which has let her smash together her love for music, laughter, and tacos in a truly remarkable way. She has a particular passion for teaching children how to ring, and her innovative methods have made her a sought after educator at area and national handbell festivals. Stevie serves as the handbell director at First Congregational Church Houston, and loves helping other choirs as a private clinician or planning epic concerts for them as a creative consultant. She and her husband Paul are co-owners of Truly Horrible Things, a snarky card game company, even though her mother always told her that no one would ever pay her to be sarcastic.

All music should be purchased and learned ahead of the workshop. These selections can be ordered from Jeffers Handbell Supply or any other music distributor. No photo copies.

Massed Ringing

Stevie Berryman, 2020 Lowcountry Handbell Festival Clinician

An opportunity to polish our pieces under Stevie's direction. We will also learn many valuable ideas about improving our ringing skills in Stevie's fun and exciting teaching.

No Classes this year!

Lowcountry Handbell Workshop class

Even though there will be no classes this year, there will be plenty of opportunities to learn.  Stevie is noted for her ability to teach skills in a fabulous and fun way! She has taught numerous classes at Handbell Musicians of America National Seminars, Houston area workshops and other venues.  She is the Artistic director of the Houston Chamber Ringers and also works with church handbell groups.

Alternate format for 2020

Massed ring at Lowcountry Handbell Workshop Cathedral Academy Athletic Center, North Charleston, SC

This year we have decided to work in a "Festival" format rather than a "Workshop" format. Even though there will not be the 2 levels of music, there will still be 4 selections ranging from Level 2 - 3+. - 2 - 6 octaves. There will also be a "Challenge Piece" for those who want to work a little harder!
